Pottery
Sven Ceramics is a small company of two in San Francisco (though we hope soon to grow to more!).
In our studio we use a variety of methods and processes to make our pottery. Our studio line of dinnerware pieces, cafe cups, and classic mugs are all pressed ceramics that are finished by hand. We use a RAM Press to ensure cohesion in size and weight (essential for most restaurants), and to make ceramics as durable as possible to stand up to the rigors of frequent and indelicate usage, while maintaining the beauty and unique feel of handmade ceramics lovely enough for your home kitchen. We wheel throw our more unique larger pieces such as serving dishes and large mugs, among other things. In designing custom pieces for chefs, we at times develop slab-built lines as well.
We use a local red clay for all of our work, and we design and formulate all of our own glazes in-studio to work with the clay that we use. Check out our Colorway page to see how our glazes look together.
All of our pottery is fired to a high temperature of 2305-2400 f in a gas kiln, which makes it stoneware. This means that it is durable as well as oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
If you are interested in owning some of our pottery, you are welcome to visit our shop on Etsy or send us a message on our Contact page.
